Daily Devotion – Day 2 – 1/3/2018

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.”
PSALM 33:12

Our scripture declares that a nation will be blessed when “God is the LORD.” When nations acknowledge and obey God, they will experience God’s blessings.  God promised to bless the nation of Israel and even bless those nations that were a blessing to Israel. Our country has been unusually blessed by God, and some of those blessings were due to our Christian heritage. Anyone who studies our nation’s history can see the influence of Christianity and the Bible in the founding of America. But for the past few years, our nation’s history is being revised to eliminate or minimize the role of Christianity in our founding documents.

There was no question during the earliest days of our nation that God was the Lord in this country. Much has changed since then.  Through the last half of the 20th century to the present, we have been watching the decay of morals in America.  There are major attempts to remove Christian influence from America. While we were sleeping, Satan made huge inroads into our society, government, and yes, even the Church.

This is being done in our schools, in public buildings, and in the courtrooms of our land. If indeed God promoted our nation because of our faith in God, what might we expect when we reject His influence?

A nation is only great as long as it is a nation submitted to the will and words of God. When a nation seeks after its own ways, it loses its power and influence in the world, and in essence, the blessings of God. When a nation forsakes the Lord, He will forsake that nation.

Of course we could blame the politicians and the people that are in leadership.  According to the Bible, national woes, including economic, begin when the people forsake the Lord and make money, or something else, their god. Our economic problems are symptomatic of something much deeper. Our greatest need is our need for God. MATTHEW 6:33 says “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things (material needs, food, clothing, etc.) shall be added unto you.”

The good news is that God’s favor is upon the nation that puts its trust in Him. When our relationship with God is as it should be, we can expect blessing. Each nation has the opportunity to enjoy the blessings of God. These blessings are tied, however, to the choice of that nation to make the Lord the God of that nation.  As a nation yields itself to the Lord and to His will, the nation submits itself to the righteous commands of God. Oh, that our beloved country would come to Jesus and completely trust in Him!  Would you join me in that prayer?

Heavenly Father, You have promised to bless any nation that follows after You.  Let our prayers transform our nation by transforming individual lives, one heart at a time. Help us to seek your kingdom and spread the Good News of the Gospel throughout our land and throughout the world.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
