Daily Devotion – Day 1 – 1/2/2018
Giving Your All to God
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
Happy New Year! Many of us are preparing for a “new start” on projects, our lives, our commitments, even our work for Jesus Christ.
As you begin this New Year, with hopes of becoming more disciplined in certain areas of your life, your first priority should be to get closer to God. Maybe you have even said to yourself, “I want more of God in my life!” The reality is you cannot have more of God in your life until you give God all of your life!
The primary focus of this scripture tells us to ‘present your bodies’ as a sacrifice to God. Spiritually speaking, we must bring our bodies to God’s altar. It is best to see the body here as a reference to our entire being. Whatever is said about the spirit, soul, flesh and mind, we know that they each live in our bodies. When we give the body to God, the soul and spirit go with it. Present your bodies means that God wants you, not just your work. You may do all kinds of work for God, but may never give Him your self. The thinking of this age says that our body must tell the will what to do. While the body is a wonderful servant, it is a terrible master. Our will must be the master over our bodies to fully surrender to God.
What a powerful motivation to surrender ourselves completely to him. But this is where most Christians just don’t get it. We tend to classify our lives, especially our spiritual life. We are willing to offer to the Lord some, but not all. ‘Lord, I will offer you some when it is convenient. I will give you some as long as I can stay comfortable.’
Keeping it at God’s altar as a living sacrifice keeps the body where it should be. It allows God to bring the best out of you and develop a well-formed maturity in you.
So starting today and for the next 364 days, take your everyday, ordinary life-your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life-and place it before God as a sacrificial offering…. an offering that is holy and acceptable to God. Do this every day. Keep your attention on God. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Then the transformation can take place …..you will become on the outside the Christ-centered person you really are on the inside. I hope this is what you want.
The Christian life is not about trying to get all you can from God but in giving all that you are to Him, your life as a living sacrifice unto Him!Only through the giving and submitting of our entire lives can we rightly worship God and fulfill our purpose and mission on this earth.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we present our bodies to You….giving You our all that we may accomplish all that You have in store for us in building up Your Kingdom.
